The historic triangle of Athens is considered as the area formed by Syntagma, Monastiraki and Omonia Squares.
It consists of the city’s biggest bank institutions and other important sights, like the Parliament and many Ministries. Ermou Street at Syntagma is crossed by Aiolou Street, where you can buy several things like fabrics, house ware and jewellery at very low prices.
The same goes for the famous Aghiou Markou Street. Walking around the area Aghias Irinis Square with the historical church of the same name at the centre, you will find lots of cafés and eateries where busy locals take a relaxing break. Make a stop at Varvakios Market, the central and biggest market of the capital, where several stalls sell fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. Stoll along the neighbourhood of this buzzing hub until you reach Kolokotroni Street, with many popular bars and shops, and Karagiorgi Servias Street. Visit Thiseos and Romvis Street, filled with silversmith workshops and cafés where you can make a short break from your interesting and off-the-radar trip.
